Dr. Makhlouf earned her medical degree from Ain Shams University, School of Medicine, Cairo, Egypt. She completed Pathology fellowships in renal pathology, hepatic and gastrointestinal pathology, and soft tissue tumors at the Department of Pathology, University of Maryland, Baltimore, MD and the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) in Washington DC, respectively. Prior to joining CDP Dr Makhlouf served as the Chief of the Division of Hepatic Pathology, a Senior Distinguished Scientist and Principal Investigator in hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal pathology at the AFIP. She joined CDP in 2013 as a Program Director where she manages the NCI multi-institutional cooperative agreement grants for biospecimen banking to support cancer research including NCI Clinical Trials Network Biospecimen Banks (NCTN Biobanks) and Early-Phase and Experimental Clinical Trials Biospecimen Bank (EET Biobank). She also manages the sarcoma grants portfolio as well as advises researchers on human tissue specimen resources and sample preparation. Dr. Makhlouf provides pathology expertise and support including QA/QC assessment, confirming diagnosis, evaluating, and annotating Aperio-scanned images of biopsy/resection specimens for DCTD programs: Pharmacodynamic Assay Development and Implementation Section (PADIS); Developmental Therapeutic Clinic (DTC), and other programs.
